Msgr. Ronald J. Marczewski presently is the Pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

Ronald John Marczewski was the eldest son of Frank and Margaret (Dillon) Marczewski. Born in the city of Bayonne, he grew up in Roselle Park, NJ. He was educated in Sherman school in Roselle Park, NJ and St. Peter’s Preparatory School, Jersey City, NJ. After graduating high school, he entered Seton Hall Divinity School and then Immaculate Conception Seminary. He received a B.A. in Classical Languages from Seton Hall and a M. Div. from the seminary. On May 25, 1974 he was ordained to the priesthood and assigned to St. Adalbert Parish, Elizabeth, NJ. During his five years there, he taught at St. Patrick High School, was active in CYO retreat programs, and coordinated the Archdiocesan Vocation programs for co-ed and boys’ high schools (1976-77.)
In 1980, Fr. Ron was assigned to Campus Ministry at Rutgers University, Newark campus and New Jersey Institute of Technology. From 1982 until 1990, he served as the Director for Campus Ministry for the Archdiocese of Newark and was the Northeast represent to the National Association of Diocesan Directors of Campus Ministry (1985-87). He was also a founding board member of, and Campus Ministry Advisor to, the National Catholic Student Coalition (1984-87.) In 1987 he was awarded a Masters of Arts in Spirituality from Fordham University.
In 1990, Fr. Ron was granted a Sabbatical year in which he studied Theology in the Institute for Continuing Theological Education at the North American College in Rome, Spirituality at Hawkstone Hall in England, and Celtic Spirituality at All Hallows Seminary in Dublin, Ireland.
In 1991, Fr. Ron was assigned as the Chaplain to Essex Catholic High School, East Orange. He served there from 1991 to 1995 during which time he helped design a retreat program on racial awareness for students from the Archdiocese of Newark and the Diocese of Trenton. In 1995, he was asked to develop an Office for Young Adult Ministry in the archdiocese. He went into full time young adult work from 1995 until 1997. In 1995, he was given the additional responsibility of being the Administrator for St. Adalbert parish in Elizabeth. In February of 1996 he was appointed Pastor. During his years as pastor, the church and parish plant underwent an extensive restoration. In addition to being a pastor, in January of 1997, Fr. Ron was named the Executive Director of CYO/ Youth and Young Adult Ministries. He continued in both positions until June of 2000. It was at that time that he left C.Y.O. and was asked to take on the added responsibility of being the Administrator for St. Patrick Parish, Elizabeth, NJ.
In 2004, Msgr. Ron was assigned as Pastor to St. Aloysius Church in Caldwell NJ. While there he oversaw repairs and a restoration of the Rectory, repaired sections of the Church roof, and replaced the Church doors. In 2005, Archbishop Myers assigned Msgr. Ron to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Msgr. Ron has been sought as a lecturer and retreat giver. He has served in
various ministries and many capacities in the Archdiocese of Newark. These include
being a counselor in Project Rachel (a program of post-abortion spiritual counseling); the chaplain for the Knights of Columbus Council 253; the liaison for Catholic Clergy to the City of Elizabeth’s Census 2000 Committee; the Catholic Chaplain to the New York Giants Football team ( 1995-98); an elected member of the Archdiocese of Newark’s
Priests’ Senate (1979-81); and membership on the Priest Personnel Board (1981-84) of which he was chairman from 1982-84.
In 1998 he was selected as the Marshall for the Elizabeth contingent to the Pulaski Day Parade. Also in that year, he was awarded a gold metal from the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland for his work in supporting the development outreach of the university. In December 2000 he was named a “Prelate of Honor” by his Holiness,
Pope John Paul II. In 2004, Archbishop John Joseph Myers submitted his name to the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem..
Since 2002, Msgr. Ron has been a Trustee of The Pope John Paul II Cultural Center in Washington, D.C. where he served on the development committee. He has also served on the Board of Catholic Campus Ministry Association, the development Board of Trinitas Hospital, Elizabeth, NJ, and the Board of Immaculate Conception High School, Lodi, NJ.
